A recent report from the American Lung Association found Detroit’s air quality ranks sixth in the nation for smog and soot exposure...Community Activist Sam Luqman is a resident of Dearborn’s Southend neighborhood, which is surrounded by industrial plants, like Ford’s River Rouge Complex and Cleveland-Cliffs’ steel mill. Dr. Garen Wolff, an allergy and immunology physician who works in Detroit, also joined the conversation.

Detroit was ranked the third worst U.S. city to live in for people with asthma in a new report published by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. Today on The Metro, allergy expert and native Detroiter Dr. Garen Wolff joins the show to talk about the report's findings and what Detroiters can do to improve their air quality. Also, Outlier Media has a new and improved text service aiming to help residents get answers to essential questions. We'll speak with Outlier Media Founder and Editor-in-Chief Sarah Alvarez about how the service is helping address information gaps in Detroit.

Dr. Garen Wolff is interviewed by WWJ Newsradio 950 on  the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) 2024 Asthma Capitals Report. In this report, Detroit is ranked as the third worst city for asthmatics. Dr. Wolff discusses the reasons for this high ranking. She said, among other things, hotter temperatures contribute to asthma attacks due to a higher amount of pollen in the air.
