ABOUT US
Dr. Garen Wolff is a board certified physician, published scientist, national speaker, and native Detroiter. After graduating from Detroit Country Day, she matriculated to Wellesley College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience. While there she published her first scientific article in the Biology of Reproduction Journal. Following her undergraduate education she pursued a Masters of Medical Science at Wayne State University in Detroit. Prior to attending medical school she participated in research at the National Institute of Health as an Intramural Research Training Award Fellow. Dr. Wolff earned her medical doctorate (MD) from Indiana University School of Medicine. Her Internal Medicine residency was conducted at Summa Health-Akron City Hospital. While there she was named “Resident of the Year”, for her dedication, scholarship, and patient advocacy. It was also at Summa that she decided to become an Allergist after her own experience with an allergic food reaction. After completing residency and successfully passing the American Board of Internal Medicine exam, Dr. Wolff became a board certified Internal Medicine physician. She received additional years of training and completed an Allergy-Immunology Fellowship at Indiana University School of Medicine where she worked at Riley Children's Hospital in addition to all the hospitals affiliated with Indiana University. Dr. Wolff is an Allergy-Immunology physician qualified to treat both adults and kids for diseases that involve allergies, asthma and the immune system.
Community involvement is very important to Dr. Wolff. As a teen she started Official City Prep, a 501( c ) 3 nonprofit mentoring program that was featured in Ebony and Essence Magazines. Official City Prep held the first Detroit Spelling Bee in over 10 years, a Festive Tables Show and Silent Auction, in which Oprah’s Angel Network participated. She established the Wolff Allergy and Asthma Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that addresses the disparities in—and reduces the burden of—allergic diseases and asthma in medically underserved areas and high-risk populations. Her book series, The Girlz of Galstanberry, celebrates diversity and empowers young girls. It is cataloged in the Detroit Public Library and International Youth Library in Blutenburg Castle in Munich Germany. She has had several book signings throughout Metro Detroit and partnered with Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan.
Whether pursuing her education as an undergraduate at Wellesley College, a graduate student at Wayne State University, or as a medical student and Fellow at Indiana University School of Medicine, Dr. Wolff has stayed committed to Detroit.

What is a Deductible?
The amount you pay for covered health care services before your insurance plan starts to pay.
For example: With a $2,000 deductible, you pay the first $2,000 of covered services with your own money.
What is Coinsurance?
A form of cost sharing for health services or prescription drugs between insurance companies and the insured (you!). Coinsurance means both you and your insurance company pay a portion of your medical expenses after you've met your deductible.
What is a Copayment (aka Copay)?
A fixed amount ($20, for example) you pay for a covered health care service. It is NOT applied to deductible. It is a flat rate due each time you see a doctor. Based on your insurance policy, copayments can vary for specialists visits (like Allergy/ Immunology with Dr. Wolff), drugs and lab tests.
Deductible & Copayment Example
Let's say your health insurance plan's allowable cost for a doctor's office visit is $100. Your copayment for a doctor visit is $20.
-
If you've paid your deductible: You pay $20, usually at the time of the visit.
-
If you haven't met your deductible: You pay $100, the full allowable amount for the visit.
